Does the EtherCAT Slave support FSoE?

Q

Does the EtherCAT Slave support FSoE?

A

In the case of FSoE (Fail Safe over EtherCAT) the EtherCAT network will be used as transport medium for safety relevant data.

EtherCAT Slave stack on netX is in this case a transparent "black channel", it provides the data to the user application (host application) without changes.

The EtherCAT Slave stack does not implement any special processing for FSoE data, this is the task of the host application.

The EtherCAT Slave stack provides the basic services (process data exchange, administration of CoE object dictionary) to the host application, but the host application is required to implement (i.e. create, register and process) all FSoE related CoE objects as well as process data.

Note: that the implementation of the FSoE on the host platform requires established functional safety management process according to IEC 61508.
