sensorEDGE Solutions - IIoT empowering IP67-rated managed Edge IO-Link masters

On the one hand, sensorEDGE Solutions comprises IP67-rated sensor blocks with local edge computing power and eight mastered IO-Link ports, and on the other, their central management capability. This ideal fit distinguishes the solution significantly from unintelligent IO-Link Masters that are usually under control of a PLC over an additional Fieldbus/Industrial Ethernet network, while offering no option for any remote management. sensorEDGE device whereas negotiate on the edge between IT and OT structures directly, that’s why we also call them “Edge IO-Link Masters”.

Short description

Edge IO-Link master for remote sensor data transmission

Edge IO-Link master as open edge computing platform

Description

The ready-to-use sensorEDGE solution is transmitting local IO-Link sensor data to remote MQTT clients. Usually it is set up and commissioned instantly in under 5 minutes.

The solution consists of a sensor block that corresponds with a central management platform.

The platform's remote data provisioning service and the real-time data visualization is offered on subscription basis.

The do-it-yourself sensorEDGE FIELD solution needs user intervention.

The devices are preload with OS only.  The user decides which containerized software he lets run on the devices.

A set of free basic containers provides IO-Link configuration and IO-Link-on-MQTT data provisioning functions.

The central device management over a platform is an option and available on demand.

Devices of the class sensorEDGE run autonomously and enable users to gather data from connected IO-Link sensors to either process it with custom applications locally or to forward it to post-processing data intelligences, both with the aim of turning raw data into business value as demanded in typical IIoT-enabled setups. Even if it’s an anomaly detection for predictive maintenance purposes to prevent unplanned downtimes or exploring manufacturing processes for optimization potential in retrofit scenarios, with the devices and additional sensors, those setups can be realized with ease.

The basis of the devices is a preloaded cyber-secured Linux OS meeting IEC 62443 requirements, a web configuration interface, and support for container technology to run the applications onboard safely and encapsulated. Depending on the chosen sensorEDGE solution, the devices are either always managed centrally or can be managed as an option. On the management platform, the orchestration is reduced to simple clicks in the user frontend, allowing for the administration of any decentralized edge-supported IO-Link project throughout its life cycle.
