netFIELD Edge - Manageable intelligent data routers for the IT/OT convergence

The domain netFIELD Edge includes devices of different performance classes that serve as intelligent data routers between the operating level (OT) and the information technology (IT) level of automated systems. Using freely loadable software embedded in containers, netFIELD Edge devices autonomously aggregate, process, or transmit IIoT information in parallel with established production and control processes.

The devices are built upon a cyber-secured Linux operating system compliant with IEC 62443, featuring a web configuration interface and two container engines operating independently. Optionally, each device and the second container engine can be centrally managed via a platform. The platform's user interface simplifies device and container orchestration, enabling easy administration of decentralized edge-supported IIoT projects throughout their life cycle.

One notable feature of these devices is their operational technology (OT) connectivity to industrial networks such as PROFINET, EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, or IO-Link, achieved through the integration of Hilscher’s multi-protocol chip netX. This distinctive fusion of netX and CPU computing power is well-suited for running various IIoT-supported industrial applications. Users have the flexibility to choose whether data mining software runs directly on the devices or if data intelligence is outsourced to any cloud in data forwarding scenarios.
