cifX - PCI performance problem with DELL Precision 3650
NOTE:
Information: Update: 2022-10-06
DELL has released a BIOS update that should fix the PCI card performance problem.
- The fix is expected to be included in BIOS version V1.15.0
- Adjust Active State Power Management (ASPM) setting in BIOS to Disabled.
ATTENTION:
Current DELL Precision 3650 PCs showing a massive read performance drop in conjunction with the Hilscher CIFX 50 PCI based PC cards
Additional Details
During our Microsoft operating system evaluation, we encountered a massive read data perfomance drop by a factor of 10,
when using a DELL Precsion 3650 PC.
This happens only when using the Hilscher PCI based CIFX 50 PC cards and does not releates to the Hilscher PCI express based hardware CIFX 50E PC cards nor to the used Microsoft Windows operating system version.
Memory Read Performance
- The memory read performance of the PCI card (CIFX50-RE) is 10 times lower than on a DELL reference PC (see below).
- All test where done with the actual install DELL system BIOS and system drivers (Januar 2022)
- The problem exists under Microsoft Windows 10 and Microsoft Windows 11.
Memory Write Performance
- The memory write performance of the PCI and PCIexpress card (CIFX50-RE and CIFX50E-RE) is similar to the DELL reference PC (see below).
