What are the requirements for a PROFINET pre-certification test at Hilscher?

Q

What are the requirements for a PROFINET pre-certification test?

A

Hilscher offers a service to pretest a PROFINET IO Device before the final product is given to an accredited PI test lab for certification. This service is associated with cost and needs to be ordered via Hilscher sales team. This pre-certification test uncovers typical errors that can happen while implementing a PROFINET IO Device application and GSDML file.

During the pre-certification tests the following points will be checked:

  • GSDML file (valid, correct GSDML version and plausible content)
  • manual compatibility tests with market leader engineering system and SPS
  • execution of the tests as available in the last officially released PI certification tool (depending on the features of the device)
  • execution of the network load tests as available in the last officially released PI certification tool (if requested)

The following things are required before Hilscher can start a pre-certification test of an IO Device.

  • GSDML file (prior to test start as typically issues that arise in GSDML file)
  • short informal description and explanation required to understand how the test item works, especially
    • how to exchange input data
    • how to control output data
    • how to trigger alarms and/or diagnosis events (if exists)
  • contact person (email and/or phone) responsible for the device
  • device to be tested shall be operable with either less than 48V DC or with 230V AC
    • devices that require more than 230V AC (e.g. 380V AC) can be tested by Hilscher on special request
  • appropriate power cable
  • if Ethernet connector is not RJ45 appropriate network cables (one for each port)

In order to obtain a positive test report from a certification laboratory, more requirements apply in addition to these requirements. Check out the PI web pages for details.

(warning)  Pre-testing a device at Hilscher cannot be compared to a test at a certification laboratory. Certification tests and test specifications are subject to change and undergo a continuous development through the PROFINET user organizations for the fieldbus systems. Hilscher can not guarantee that the version of the protocol stack used at the beginning of the project complies with the requirements at the time of certification.
