The series of SIMATIC S7 programming adaptors allow to program, visualize and to control of S7-200®, S7-300® or S7-400® PLCs over Ethernet. They substitute SIMATIC Ethernet CPs such as CP 343-1.
While an Ethernet CP communicates with the PLC across the PLC's backplane bus, the programming adaptors communicate over the PLC's Profinet or MPI/PPI port instead.
A driver package integrates into any available SIMATIC tools such as STEP7, TIA Portal or WinCC etc. and enables the devices selection as programming PG/PC station. Where original Siemens Ethernet CPs were available for selection in the tools before the programming adaptors can be selected alternatively after driver installation.
The devices are based on a cooperation between Company Hilscher and Company IBHsoftec. Hilscher is producing the units, IBHsoftec is writing all the software in terms of firmware and drivers.
