Q

netANALYZER has a quite complex license portfolio, which licences are required for which use-case?

A

License model

  • netANALYZER licenses enable various software features.
  • The licenses are always stored on a single netANALYZER device.
  • The netANALYZER works as a license dongle when it is attached to a PC running the netANALYZER Scope software.
Means, when the analyzer is connected to a PC, the software running on that PC would automatically enable the licensed feature.
When the analyzer is removed from the PC, the software will automatically fall back in the unlicensed mode.
  • Licenses cannot be moved between different netANALYZER device.

Use-case: Raw data capture with Wireshark

To perform a live capture with Wireshark, no specific license is required. Data can be captured from any network type such as standard Ethernet, PROFINET, EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, etc.

Use-case: Raw data capture with USB pen drive

To perform a live capture to dump raw frame data to an USB pen drive, the license LIC/NANL/SA is required.

Data can be captured from any network type such as standard Ethernet, PROFINET, EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, etc.

Data from the USB pen drive can be opened offline on any PC without a license.

Use-case process data analysis

To perform a graphic process data analysis and to be able to trigger on that process data the licenses
  • LIC/SCPBS and LIC/SCP/PN are required for capture from PROFINET networks
  • LIC/SCPBS and LIC/SCP/ECAT are required for capture from EtherCAT networks
  • LIC/SCPBS and LIC/SCP/EIP are required for capture from EtherNet/IP networks

In case an analyzer should be used for capturing from multiple network types, an analyzer can be equipped with multiple feature licenses,

in such a case only one base license is required per device, multiple feature licenses are required.

For example following combinations are commonly used:

  • LIC/SCPBS + LIC/SCP/PN + LIC/SCP/ECAT to be able to use netANALYZER Scope with PROFINET and EtherCAT networks
  • LIC/SCPBS + LIC/SCP/PN + LIC/SCP/EIP to be able to use netANALYZER Scope with PROFINET and EtherNet/IP networks
  • LIC/SCPBS + LIC/SCP/PN + LIC/SCP/ECAT + LIC/SCP/EIP to be able to use netANALYZER Scope with PROFINET, EtherCAT and EtherNet/IP networks
  • etc.

Use-case network quicktester

In order to use the quicktester function, it is required to equip the analyzer with

  • LIC/SCPBS and LIC/SCP/QTPN for PROFINET networks
  • the quicktester is currently available for PROFINET only, thus no feature licenses for EtherCAT or EtherNet/IP exist

It is also possible to combine quicktester and process data licenses on a single device.

Use-case snapshot trigger capture with USB pen drive

In order to use netANALYZER Scope's trigger functionality for autonomous operation mode, and let the analyzer take frame snapshots to a USB pen drive when such a trigger condition occurs, it is required to have to appropriate combination of LIC/SCPBS, LIC/SCP/XX and LIC/NANL/SA licenses stored on the netanalyzer device.

For example:

  • taking snapshots from a PROFINET networks process data, LIC/SCPBS, LIC/SCP/PN, LIC/NANL/SA are required
  • taking snapshots from an EtherCAT networks process data, LIC/SCPBS, LIC/SCP/ECAT, LIC/NANL/SA are required
  • taking snapshots from a PROFINET networks quicktester events, LIC/SCPBS, LIC/SCP/QTPN, LIC/NANL/SA are required
  • etc....

Use-case read in third-party capture files

In order to import capture files from third party tools to be able to use netANALYZER Scope analysis features, an additional license LIC/SCP/PCAP is required.

The licenses netANALYZER must be attached to the PC while running the import process.

Only the capture process is licensed

Uses can always open and visualize already stored netANALYZER Scope project files (.nsprj) without the need of attaching a licenses analyzer to their PC.
