ATTENTION!

Recovering a gateway will clear all contents on the device's main storage memory (HDD,eMMC).

Before continuing make sure you saved all important informations on the gateway to somewhere else before.

USB stick preparation

Take an USB stick with a size larger > 500Mbyte which is the minimum estimated size of a firmware image
The stick can be either USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 compatible. The gateway offers both options.
The stick must be formatted FAT32 and named "RECOVERY". The correct name is most important for recognition later.
Sticks of sizes >=64GByte can't be formatted FAT32 under Windows and more. You need a tool such as "HP USB STICK FORMAT" to do so.

The firmware image comes as TAR compressed archive
Use a tool such as 7Zip to decompress the file
The image directory starts with a root folder "." where you find all the relevant files in
Extract the two folders "boot" and "EFI" and the firmware file to your the USB stick in a 1:1 copy
The stick then looks like

Make sure the gateway is switched offf by pushing the power button on the front panel . The green power LED indicator will go off.
Plug in a keyboard in any of the gateway's USB ports
Connect a monitor to the gateway's DVI-I display port. Just use a 1:1 DVI cable only (don’t use adapters DVI-I to VGA or so, they will not be recognized by the gateway and the screen remains black)
Plug in the firmware stick in any of the available USB ports (USB3.0 is much faster and marked in blue)
Switch on the gateway
The time the gateway beeps with a sound press key DEL on your keyboard. That activates the BIOS configuration screen on your monitor
Use the cursor to move to the “Boot” option and then move down to “Boot Option #1”. It should be set to “UEFI OS: (P1: xxxxxxxxxx)" which is the HDD
Press return to open other options. Choose “UEFI: <name of the stick> xxGB”. DO NOT choose the option "UEFI: Built-in EFI Shell".
Move the cursor up to “Save & Exit” and confirm saving with yes. The gateway will reboot automatically.
The gateway will now boot now from the USB stick

Just insert the USB stick and power the gateway
You may connect a serial cable to the serial RS 232 port to monitor serial outputs at 11500,8,N,1 settings on a terminal

During the USB stick's boot procedure you see console outputs on either the display or serial port depending on the gateway model. They can be ignored if all passed with OK.
Let the final progress bar run to the end. The gateway will automatically switch off.
Remove the stick
Switch the gateway on again. The boot order will be automatically adjusted back to HDD
You will see again the MS-DOS console outputting data and the update procedure finalizing
Your screen ends up in a netIOT picture with a Login window. You successfully have updated the gateway.
