How can I set a gateway back to factory default settings?
A
The Edge Gateways do not have a physical reset button or any other specific hardware detail to reset them to factory default. Instead an USB stick is needed to initiate to recover the system software.
Attention! Recovering a gateway with the following procedure explained below will clear all existing contents on the device's main storage memory (HDD, eMMC). So before continuing make sure you made a backup using the gateway's management web UI under Control Panel/System/Backup and Restore.
USB stick preparation
Use an USB stick with a minimum size of 500Mbyte
The stick should be USB 2.0 compatible
The stick have to be formatted FAT32
The stick's volume have to be named "RECOVERY". Other names will not be accepted.
Sticks of sizes >=64GByte can't be formatted FAT32 under Windows. A tool such as "HP USB STICK FORMAT" is needed to format bigger sizes.
Extracting the provided image
The system software image comes as zip compressed archive
If you open the image you see a structure like this:
Extract the whole image to your USB stick's root directory in a 1:1 copy
Installing the system software
Switch off the gateway
Plug in the USB stick in any of the gateway's USB ports
Power on the gateway
The gateways loader will recognized the USB stick during boot sequence automatically and initiates the installation
Please do not interrupt the installation and wait until the device powers down.
Remove the USB stick and restart the gateway
What to do if the installation procedure does not work?
Gateway with a DVI display port (NIOT-E-TIJCX-GB-XX)
Make sure the gateway is switched off. The green power LED indicator will be in state "off"
Plug in a keyboard in any of the gateway's USB ports
Connect a monitor to the gateway's DVI-I display or DP port. Just use a 1:1 DVI/ DP cable only will work (don’t use adapters DP/DVI-I to VGA or so, they will not be recognized by the gateway and the screen remains black)
Plug in the firmware stick in any of the available USB ports (USB3.0 is much faster and marked in blue)
Power on the gateway
The time the gateway beeps with a sound press key DEL on your keyboard. This activates the BIOS configuration screen on your monitor. If you are too late pressing the DEL key reset the gateway and start from beginning.
Use the cursors to move to the “Boot” menu item and then move down to “Boot Option #1”. It should be set to “UEFI OS: (P1: xxxxxxxxxx)" which is the HDD
Press "enter" to open the other boot options. Choose “UEFI: <name of the stick> xxGB”. DO NOT choose the option "UEFI: Built-in EFI Shell"
Move the cursor up to “Save & Exit” and confirm saving with yes. The gateway will reboot automatically and will now start booting from USB stick instead of the HDD
During the following boot sequence the gateway will boot from USB stick and initiates the installation
Please do not interrupt the installation and wait until the device powers down
Remove the USB stick and restart the gateway
