How big can a backup file get?
A backup created on the Edge Gateways is a 1 to 1 copy of the system software including OS, settings, parameters, data, software ... everything.
To be able to create a backup online as offered storage space is needed where to place the backup file to during this process. This is why on every Edge Gateway the storage media is split into two partitions exactly in the middle. The first partition (first half) is used for the system partition, while the purpose of the second one is holding the backup file just in case. In turn that means only half of the provided media is used for the Edge Gateways software effectively.
Of course the backup file is compressed during its generation process and shouldn't get as big as the system partition but in worst case it could means half the size of the storage media. See the table below for an overview of the different Edge Gateways:
Edge Gateway | Storage media size | Max.backup file size (uncompressed) |
---|---|---|
NIOT-E-TIJCX-GB-XX | 128GB | 64GB |
NIOT-E-TIB100-GB-XX | 16GB | 8GB |
NIOT-E-TPI51-EN-xx | 8GB | 4GB |
