PLC Startup Guide - WinCC PC Runtime based PROFIdrive Example

To begin, we assume that the NXHX 90-MC board is already preprogrammed. If you have any difficulties with programming, look for more detailed information on Confluence, or contact our service team.

The PLC example compatible with your motor can be downloaded below:

EMPAPST ECI4220K1B100 - PDRV-AC1-S1500-NETX90MC-WINCC-EMPAPTS-ECI4220K1B100-V1.0.0.1

MAXON ECI30 - PDRV-AC1-S1500-NETX90MC-WINCC-MAXON-ECI30-V1.0.0.1

The PLC examples are compatible with PROFINET PROFIdrive_Example_AC1 V4.0.0.1.

  1. Make the connections as shown in Figure 1.

Figure 1 - The block diagram of the Demo System

  1. NETX90-MC board is seen in Figure 2. The SYS LED(denoted by 4) should be solid green. Otherwise, it should be understood that the firmware is not running. When the connection with the PLC is established, the COM0(SYSTEM FAILURE) LED(denoted by 25) and COM1(BUS FAILURE) LED(denoted by 26) should be turned off. If the COM1 LED is solid red, check the network cabling and PLC communication. If it is blinking RED, the board’s IP address couldn’t be assigned by the PLC. So check the device name you have set (Follow steps 12 and 13, respectively).

  1. Attach the Siemens SD Card to the S7-1500 PLC (Figure 2).

Figure 3 - Attach the SD Card
  1. Power on the S7-1500T PLC, programmed NETX90-MC board.

  2. Open the front cover on the PLC’s display and turn to switch to the RUN position.

  3. Download and extract the project's latest version compatible with your motor “PDRV-AC1-S1500-NETX90MC-WINCC-EMPAPTS-ECI4220K1B100“ or “PDRV-AC1-S1500-NETX90MC-WINCC-MAXON-ECI30“ (Figure 4).

  1. Open the project with TIA Portal 15.1 (Figure 5).

  1. Stop the PLC through TIA Portal (Figure 6).

  2. Upload the Project to the PLC through TIA Portal (Figure 6).

  1. Run the PLC through TIA Portal (Figure 7).

  1. If no Profinet Device Name is assigned to the PLC, assign the new device name.

  2. Change the NETX90-MC’s Profinet Device Name - netx90repns (Figure 8).

  1. Reset the power of all devices (NETX90-MC and S7-1500T).

  2. Set the WinCC PC Runtime IP Address to the connected LAN card as you can see in Figure 9.

  1. Set PG/PC Interface to be worked with WinCC PC Runtime. The LAN card connected to the PLC should be selected (Figure 10).

  1. Run the WinCC PC Runtime application. (Figure 11)

  1. Follow the steps below to start motor control with WinCC PC Runtime (Figure 12):

    1. At startup, all switches should be set to OFF.

    2. If the Status is RED, turn the Reset switch ON, wait for minimum 1 second and turn it OFF again (Status will turn green).

    3. Turn the Power switch ON.

    4. Turn the Start/Stop switch ON.

    5. Set the desired direction(CW or CCW) from the Direction switch.

    6. Adjust the desired motor speed from the scroll bar in the middle.

    7. The motor’s actual speed can be seen with the gesture on the right side.
